Faruqui is the maternal granddaughter of N M Uqaili, a former Pakistan Minister of Finance, and the daughter of Usman Farooqi, a bureaucrat and former Chairman of Pakistan Steel Mill. She is also the niece of Salman Faruqui, a close associate of former President Asif Ali Zardari. Faruqui holds a Master of Business Administration from the Adamson Institute of Business Administration and Technology in Karachi, as well as a Master of Laws degree.

Faruqui is married to Hasham Riaz Sheikh, a former Wall Street investment banker who currently serves as an advisor to former President Asif Ali Zardari. The couple tied the knot on March 5, 2015.
